Acting late means you see what others do before you commit chips. You can open wider, steal the blinds more often and control the size of the pot after the flop. The button is usually the most profitable seat at the table, and the cutoff is close behind.
Example: Folded to you on the button, you can raise a hand like Q♦ 8♦ that you would fold from early position.
