Poker outs calculator
Outs are the unseen cards that improve your hand. Pick your two cards and a flop or turn, and this calculator lists every out, groups them by the hand they make and shows your exact chance of hitting on the next card and by the river. Add an opponent’s hand to count only the cards that put you ahead.

Cards that only pair the board aren’t counted, because they help everyone. Improving still isn’t the same as winning, so add an opponent hand for true outs.

How the outs are counted
The calculator tries every unseen card. On its own, a card is an out if it moves your hand up a category, for example from a pair to two pair or from a draw to a flush. Cards that only pair the board are left out, because they improve every player’s hand equally. With an opponent’s hand added, a card is an out only if it puts you ahead of that exact hand.
Your chance of hitting is exact: outs ÷ unseen cards for one card, and 1 − (misses ÷ unseen) × ((misses − 1) ÷ (unseen − 1)) for two cards to come. The rule of 2 and 4 is shown next to it so you can see how close the shortcut is.
Why improving isn’t always winning
Some outs help your opponent too. A card that pairs the board can give someone a full house, and a fourth card of a suit can complete a bigger flush. That is why good players discount ‘dirty’ outs, and why the opponent mode is useful when you want true outs.
Frequently asked questions
How many outs does a flush draw have?
Nine. There are 13 cards in each suit; if you can see four of them, nine are left. That is about 35% by the river from the flop, and about 19.6% with one card to come.
How many outs does an open-ended straight draw have?
Eight: four cards at each end. That is about 31.5% by the river from the flop and 17.4% on the river alone.
What is the rule of 2 and 4?
Multiply your outs by 4 with two cards to come, or by 2 with one card to come, to estimate your chance of hitting. It is close for small numbers of outs and overestimates with many.
Should I count overcards as outs?
Only partly. Pairing an overcard often wins, but not always, so many players count each overcard out as about half an out. Use the opponent mode to see the exact count against a specific hand.
