Satellite: A satellite is a tournament where the prize is a seat or ticket into a larger event rather than a ranked prize for each finishing place.

In many satellites every seat awarded is worth the same, so finishing first gives no extra benefit over finishing just inside the seats. That changes strategy near the end: survival matters far more than chips. ICM pressure can be extreme, and even strong hands can be correct folds near the bubble.
Example: A satellite awards five seats. With six players left, a big stack can fold almost every hand and wait for one more player to bust.
