How a straight flush works
A straight flush needs both a straight and a flush at the same time, which is why it is so rare. The ace can play low (5-4-3-2-A) or high, but a straight cannot wrap around (Q-K-A-2-3 is not a straight).
Counts on this page exclude the royal flush, which is listed separately.
Ties: The straight flush with the higher top card wins. A 5-4-3-2-A straight flush (the ‘steel wheel’) is the lowest.

Tips for playing it
- When the board shows four cards to a straight flush, check whether you hold the card that completes it before you put chips in.
- Suited connectors make most of the straight flushes you will ever hold, which is part of why they are popular in position.
