An overpair is a strong one-pair hand that beats any top pair. It is often good enough to bet for value on several streets, but it is still only one pair. On coordinated boards, or when facing heavy action, think about whether sets, two pair or straights are likely.
Example: You hold Q♦ Q♣ and the flop is J♠ 7♥ 3♦. You have an overpair.
