Top pair: Top pair is a pair made by matching one of your hole cards with the highest card on the board.

Top pair is the most common strong hand in Hold’em, but its value depends heavily on your kicker and the board. Top pair, top kicker (TPTK) can usually bet for value. Top pair with a weak kicker is often better played for pot control, especially against heavy action.
Example: You hold A♣ K♦ on a flop of K♠ 8♥ 3♣. You have top pair with the best kicker.
