Normally the player out of position checks to the preflop raiser. Leading out instead breaks that pattern. The name sounds negative, but a planned donk bet can be sound on boards that favour the caller’s range, such as low, connected flops. Random donk bets with no plan are usually a leak.
Example: You call a raise from the big blind with 7♠ 6♠. The flop comes 8♥ 5♦ 4♣ and you bet first, into the preflop raiser.
