Stack-size decisions should be based on effective stacks, not just your own. If you have 150 big blinds and your opponent has 40, you are effectively playing a 40-big-blind hand. In multiway pots, each pair of players has its own effective stack. Effective stacks drive your SPR, your all-in decisions and how much implied odds a hand really has.
Example: You have 3,000 chips and your only opponent has 900. The effective stack is 900.
