Equity assumes all remaining cards are dealt with no more betting. AA against KK preflop has about 82% equity. Equity is the starting point for pot-odds and all-in decisions, but it ignores future betting, which is where realised equity and position come in.
Example: AA vs KK all-in before the flop: roughly 82% vs 18%.
