Backdoor draws are weak on their own: a backdoor flush draw completes only about 4.2% of the time. Their real value is the extra equity and the good turn cards they create, which make floats and semi-bluffs easier. Treat them as a bonus, not as the main reason to continue.
Example: You hold 8♦ 7♦ on a flop of K♦ 5♣ 2♠. You need two more diamonds on the turn and river to make a flush.
